The Best Green Smoothie
This Green Smoothie is a simple way to get more greens in your everyday routine. Packed with spinach, pineapple and banana, this smoothie is blended until perfectly smooth. This smoothie is refreshing and nutritious!
Even though we are still in the throes of the pandemic, we made the decision to send the kids to in-person school. Jack did distance learning for 1st grade last year and did such a great job. He was focused, goal oriented and happily completed his work.
Will, on the other hand, thought I was a very boring teacher and couldn’t wait to be around people other than his mom! They were both so ready to be back with their peers and, frankly, just to get out of the house five days a week. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t ready for the change either!
It was a tricky couple of days transitioning back to life outside our bubble. So much has had to be adjusted the past couple of years; transitions have just become the new normal.
Speaking of transitions, I am working hard to get more greens into our daily diets. While Will and I love eating salads, Jack isn’t quite convinced. But these green smoothies? Jack will slug these down any day of the week.

How Do I Make My Green Smoothie Smooth?
I love green smoothies. But, I don’t want to taste the greens or feel any chunks (if you’ve had “chunks” in your smoothie, you know how off-putting that can be)!
The trick to getting your green smoothie smooth is to blend the spinach with just the water first. This allows the spinach to blend evenly and to get rid of all those dreaded chunks!
Do I Have to Use Spinach?
No, you don’t! I like using spinach because I think it has a really mild flavor and blends well. I don’t like actually tasting the greens in my smoothie, so I like how spinach can easily be disguised. But, you can really use any leafy green you have on hand.

Tips for Involving Kids
- Have them help you measure out all of the ingredients and pour them into the blender.
- Let them be in charge of the blender. This is a very coveted position in my house. Being the one in charge of pushing the buttons is always fun!
- Talk to your kids while the smoothie is blending to (hopefully) encourage them to try it. For example, “Ooo, look at those greens mixing up. It’s going to taste delicious and have lots of good vitamins and minerals for our bodies”.
- There is always going to be a mess when you cook with your kids but, like my little guy Will says, “It’s okay Mom, chefs make messes and then they clean it up.” Have fun cooking with your kids!!
