It’s a tough time to be a parent right now. With school just around the corner, parents are being faced with some difficult decisions. Do you send your kids to school full-time? Do you keep them home and do distance learning? Do you do some hybrid of both of these? Oh, and while you’re at it, don’t forget about trying to maintain your job and take care of any non school-aged kids.

It’s a lot. Not to mention all the other factors some parents have to face – children with special needs, parents working outside the home, parents working from home, parents working multiple jobs, the list goes on. And, it’s not just a one size fits all decision. What might be right for one family doesn’t work well for another family.

So, like I said before, it’s a tough time to be a parent. Give yourself some grace if you need to make this tough decision and give others some grace if they decide something different.

Matt and I talked about it A LOT and ultimately decided to do full-time distance learning for Jack for 1st grade. While we would love for him to go back to school with his friends and be in the classroom learning, it seems like the best decision for us.

Jack did really well with distance learning. He is such a hard-working and focused kid and really flourished academically last spring. Plus, I have a masters degree in education and currently stay home with our kids, so all signs pointed towards full-time distance learning.

We decided to pull Will out of his preschool, as well. This year quickly went from me riding down easy street to a full on u-turn! But, we will get through it, day by day. And, if you are a parent reading this, please know that a decision that is right for me and my family may not be the best decision for you and your family.

Let’s Make The Best Broccoli Salad

I have been trying to eat as many vegetables as I can get my hands on this year. Maybe it’s a little bit of eat healthy to stay healthy!! We planted a ton of vegetables in our little garden, but the deer got to it before we could! Fortunately for us, my parents have an enormous garden that is brimming with vegetables. They have been giving us lots and lots of broccoli this year, so this broccoli salad was created when I had more broccoli then I knew what to do with!

I love a good broccoli salad but I don’t always love when it is packed with a bunch of mayonnaise. Even though I like using mayonnaise, I don’t necessarily want to taste the flavor of it, just the creaminess (if that makes sense).

I have been eating this broccoli salad pretty much everyday since I first created this recipe – it’s soooo good! If you want it to keep a little longer, you can keep the dressing separate. Otherwise, if it’s all mixed up together, it will only last for a couple of days. But, let’s be honest, you just might eat it all before you even have to think about that!

Tips for Involving Kids

• Have your kids help you cut the broccoli using their very own knives.
• Let them help you measure out all of the ingredients for the dressing.
• Keep everything deconstructed if your kids don’t like things mixed together – they might be more willing to try something new if things are separate.
