Crockpot Cuban Sandwiches
Slow roasted pork is piled high on toasted hoagie rolls. Finished with mustard, mayo, melted swiss cheese and pickles, you have a delicious Crockpot Cuban Sandwich!
I am going to keep this blog post short and sweet. Normally, I have fun pictures to share and cute stories to tell. But, in all honesty, this pandemic has been tough. The kids are doing pretty well but it’s been hard explaining why we can’t see our friends, or go to school, or go to the zoo.
It’s quite obvious that we have been talking about the Coronavirus at our house because yesterday, our neighbors stopped at the end of our driveway on their walk and Will loudly questioned “Are they 6 feet away from us??” Hey, at least the 3 year old gets it!
It’s crazy how much has changed (across the world) with covid-19. We are trying to take it day by day and focus on this time we get to spend together as a family. Hang in there – we WILL get through this.

How to Make Crockpot Cubans
- The core of this recipe is the slow cooked pulled pork. The pork takes around 4 hours to make, so I always like to make that ahead of time.
- Place the pork shoulder into the crockpot.
- In a small bowl, combine all of the pulled pork ingredients. Once combined, pour the mixture over the pork shoulder.
- Close the lid and cook for 3-5 hours.
- When the pork is done cooking, shred it.
- When you are ready to eat, assemble the Cubans by first slicing a hoagie roll in half. Brush the outsides of the roll with olive oil.
- Heat a grill pan (or any pan) over medium heat and place the olive oil sides of the hoagie roll face-down.
- Spread the stone ground mustard on one side of the hoagie and the mayo on the other side. Put the slice of swiss cheese on one side of the bread and the pickle slices on the other side.
- Cook for 2-3 minutes until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is mostly melted. If the bread is starting to burn, turn the heat down
- Place the pork on top of the slice of cheese and put the two slices of bread together. Cut in half and enjoy!

Tips for Involving Kids
- Let your kids help you measure out all of the pulled pork ingredients and stir them all together.
- Have them help you assemble the cubans!
- There is always going to be a mess when you cook with your kids but, like my little guy Will says, “It’s okay Mom, chefs make messes and then they clean it up.” Have fun cooking with your kids!!

We love LOVE your crockpot Cuban recipe! I don’t have a crockpot and just make it in my cast iron enamel pan. I noticed that Nicole @beginathome makes this often, so we gave it a try and it’s in our dinner rotation, and requested often. So many ways to customize for each family members preferences too. Thanks for all of your fabulous recipes!
I absolutely LOVE hearing this! It’s a fan favorite in my family, too!!
After seeing several people rave about this recipe on Instagram, I made it with pork roast this week and can confirm it’s super delicious! The meat has great flavor all on its own (for those like me who aren’t pickle fans). My husband loved it too. I will definitely be making this again.
Looking forward to trying lots more of your recipes!
I’m so glad you all enjoyed this recipe!!
